Frozen Stiff

Frozen Stiff | Sherry Shahan

When Cody and Derek sneak off into the Alaskan wilderness, they only plan to stay for two nights. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned, and their two-night kayaking and camping trip quickly turns into days kayaking through the hostile Alaskan wilderness after rising waters and currents sweep them away. Even worse, they fear that someone is following them, and they wonder if the person is a friend or a foe. As they make their way towards the Hubbard glacier, Cody and Derek both learn a lesson about trust and perseverance. Will they survive? Or will they die icy deaths?

I would highly recommend Frozen Stiff to fans of Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet. It’s a book with some carefully developed characters and great imagery. I enjoyed it, and I thought it had some good lessons woven into the plot.
