Hello, Universe is about a very shy boy named Virgil Salinas. The main theme of the book is friendship and courage. Virgil has a guinea pig named Gulliver. Kaori Tanaka is a kid fortune teller. One morning Virgil takes his guinea pig with him in his backpack. The unthinkable happens when Chet, the bully, sees them. Valencia Somerset is deaf. She has nightmares and goes to Kaori for help. According to Kaori their fates are destined by the stars… There is bullying in the plot.
The book had a good message. It taught me an important lesson in friendship, courage and speaking up. Some parts of the story were sad, others happy and others bittersweet.
