Lion: A Long Way Home

Lion: A Long Way Home (Young Reader’s Edition) | Saroo Brierley

Lion: A Long Way Home is the life story of Saroo Brierley. Saroo was lost on a train in India when he was five years old, and then lived on the streets of Calcutta for weeks before being taken in by an orphanage. He was then adopted internationally to Australia, where he was happy with his new home, but was haunted by his mysterious past and wondered if he could ever find his family. When Saroo discovers Google Earth, he wonders if he can find his hometown using satellite imagery to trace the train routes from Calcutta and recognizable landmarks near his town. Soon Saroo begins searching, but will he ever be able to find his family?

I really enjoyed Lion: A Long Way Home. This memoir is written with the perfect balance of clarity and detail. Saroo Brierley does a wonderful job of describing the scenes, and you really feel like you’re there, experiencing what he experienced.
