Notorious

Notorious | Gordon Korman

Keenan is recovering from tuberculosis. For him this means sitting in a lawn chair outside playing video games and watching videos on his phone. He’s been sent to Centerlight Island, where his dad lives, until he recovers. Keenan’s lived all over the world because his mom is a teacher at an international school, but Centerlight is unique. The Canadian – American Border splits the island in a jagged line, making some interesting complications. Soon Keenan meets his neighbor ZeeBee, who’s the town expert on Centerlight’s gangster history. ZeeBee’s beloved dog, Barney had died a couple of months before Keenan came to Centerlight, and ZeeBee suspects murder. Unfortunately, everyone’s a suspect – Barney terrorized the town and costed a lot of money in repair damage. When Keenan and ZeeBee start looking into the mystery, it seems like there’s more than meets the eye. Soon the duo is wrapped up in gangster treasure, poisoned meat, and a ransacked house. Will they solve the case before the trail goes cold?

Notorious was a satisfying and exciting read – I really enjoyed it. It was an original story that had just the right balance of realistic and fiction, and it had me on the edge of my seat all the way through. I really enjoy Gordon Korman’s writing, and this was no exception.
