The Alchmyst

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: The Alchmyst | Michael Scott

Twins Sophie and Josh are ordinary teenagers, until one day, the evil Dr. John Dee attacks the bookshop where Josh works and captures an ancient book being protected there. The manager of the bookshop is actually Nicholas Flamel, and he rescues the kids with the help of his wife Perenelle. Nicholas, Perenelle, and their friend Scathach explain that they are the guardians of the ancient book, and have discovered an immortality elixir, which is how they have lived for over half a century, that Josh and Sophie are the twins mentioned in an ancient prophecy, and that almost all of the gods from different cultures throughout the ages are real. The only way to stop Dr. John Dee from bringing back ‘the dark elders’ who will destroy the world is to have Josh and Sophie’s powers awakened, and for them to learn the five elemental magics. Nicholas, Perenelle, Scathach, Josh, and Sophie go on a journey to try and get the twins’ powers awakened, and to get them to learn the first elemental magic: air. Can they do that, or will Dr. John Dee catch them first?

This book was very suspenseful! I did not want to put it down and finished it very quickly! I’ve also finished the next two in the series, and they are like that too; they are all worth reading!
