The Ickabog

The Ickabog | J.K. Rowling

Cornucopia was a very happy little kingdom. All its citizens had smiles on their faces, and every town had its own extraordinarily delicious type of food. In the capital of Cornucopia, Chouxville (known for its exquisite pastries and sweets), there lived two best friends, Bert and Daisy. Their parents work for the fabulous King Fred, and they are quite happy. But, unfortunately, the perfect state of Cornucopia doesn’t last for long. A shepherd asks King Fred to hunt the Ickabog, a creature that is certainly mythical. King Fred, determined to prove his loyalty and compassion, hunts for the Ickabog with his trusty advisors, Lord Spittleworth and Lord Flapoon. After claiming to see the Ickabog, King Fred tells his advisors to find the Ickabog, and they shoot at something in the dark. But the something isn’t the Ickabog. It’s a someone. In an attempt to cover up their grievous mistake, Spittleworth and Flapoon spin a web of dark lies that takes the kingdom’s prosperity into a downward spiral. Lies lead to more lies, and soon the happy little kingdom of Cornucopia has disappeared into the chaos. Bert and Daisy are swept up in the action, as the original lies hit close to home. Can they save Cornucopia, or will there be no happily ever after for the once-great kingdom? What will it take to unravel the truth amidst the dark tangle of deception?

I thoroughly enjoyed The Ickabog. There were some tragic scenes, but I felt like it had a good message and a terrific plot. I would highly recommend it to anyone, and it’s definitely a must read, especially for fans of J.K. Rowling's other books.
