The Invaders

The Brotherband Chronicles: The Invaders | John Flanagan

After losing the Andomal at the end of Brotherband training, Hal and his crew, the Herons, have run away to find Zavac, the pirate who has stolen the Andomal. Unfortunately, a storm keeps them inside a sheltered bay for a few weeks on their way to recapture the Skandian’s most sacred treasure, and the Herons become restless, but eventually begin a rigorous training program to be ready to fight Zavac for the Andomal. Hal perfects his ship and gives her a revolutionary new weapon, while Thorn trains Hal’s crew in speed and agility. Soon the storm abates, and the Herons follow Zavac’s trail to Limmat, a larger town with a secret emerald mine in it. Zavac has attacked the town and occupied it with his pirates, killing many of the townspeople. After viewing Limmat from afar, the Herons sail back to their camp in the sheltered bay to pick up their supplies, but a surprise is waiting for them. Svengal and the Wolfwind’s crew are waiting for them, but they’ve come to help remove Limmat from Zavac’s control and recover the Andomal. After sailing around to the swampland just outside Limmat, the Skandians team up with some Limmatian soldiers and Hal devises a cunning plan to save Limmat, and, ideally, recover the Andomal as well. Will the Skandians recover the Andomal and save Limmat?

I really enjoyed The Invaders, but I will say that it did have a slow start. The ending is well worth a bit of forced reading though, and The Invaders quickly speeds up towards the middle of the book. Overall, I really enjoyed it, and definitely recommend it to fans of the Ranger’s Apprentice series, and the Green Ember series.

This book is awesome! I think the amber gem is actually called the "andomal" not the "adomal" though, right?
