The Neverending Story | Michael Ende
The Neverending Story is a story about a great quest. Bastian (our protagonist) likes to read. He is not good at much else though and is constantly bullied at school. One rainy morning before school he ducks into a bookshop and, while the owner is gone for a moment, he steals a book titled The Neverending Story (because what reader wouldn’t a story that never ended?). After stealing the book Bastian decides to read during school in the school’s attic to escape the bullies. (And because The Neverending Story sounds like a book that’s worth it.) Before long Bastian is swept into the magical world of Fantastica and becomes a character in The Neverending Story. But Fantastica is in danger. The Nothing is eating up the enchanted world and the only one who can save Fantastica is Bastian. Will he muster the courage to save Fantastica or will the world disappear into Nothing?
This story is a beautifully written and original quest. I enjoyed following Bastian on his mission to save Fantastica. The Neverending Story is a bit long though, so be prepared. I really recommend finishing the story though, as you will never feel satisfied until you finish Bastian’s quest.
