The Runaway King

Ascendance: The Runaway King | Jennifer Nielsen

Jaron has returned and taken the throne of the kingdom. However, the Avenian pirates are trying to take over Carthya, and they tell him if he does not cooperate in 10 days, they will kill one of his friends. Also, the other regents decide Jaron needs a steward to rule in his place (because of his somewhat questionable decisions) until he is older. Jaron agrees to leave the castle, but instead of going where he is supposed to, he goes to rescue his friend from the pirates and stop them from taking over. But things don’t go quite as planned. Can he save himself, his friends, and his country?

This was an excellent follow-up to the first Ascendance book. It was very exciting, and Jaron is very funny as well. I really enjoyed it.
